Helmut Lotti was born on 22 October 1969 in St. Amandsberg, Belgium.
He is extremely popular in Belgium and well-known all over the world. His real name is Helmut Lotigiers and early on in his singing career he also used the performance name 'Kevin Leach' for a while. As a young boy, he fell in love with American 'crooner' music and songs by Elvis Presley who he will spend most of his youth impersonating at contests all over Europe.
Lotti has created his own place in international pop music, singing everything from Presley hits to his own interpretations of classical favourites. Lotti emerged from the Flemish music scene in the early 1990s, discovering a much wider audience in 1993 with the release of his platinum-selling album 'Memories', with English-language versions of Flemish hits. For his next album 'Just for You', Lotti performed only his own songs.
But it was 'Helmut Lotti Goes Classic', recorded live in concerts in Antwerp in September 1995, that established him as an international star. The recording features 18 classical favourites sung in Lotti's trademark style, and its success is indicated by the fact that it sold, in three months, almost half a million compact discs in Belgium alone. The recording led to a series of sold out "Classic" concerts and a meeting with tenor Luciano Pavarotti, who noted, "I just love Lotti."
In April 1997, he won the 'Best Selling Benelux Artist" trophy at the World Music Awards. In December that year Helmut can be seen on all TV stations of the world with "Christmas in Vienna" where he is joined by Placido Domingo, Sarah Brightman and Riccardo Cocciante. From then on, he tours the world and performs at more than 100 concerts each year in places as far away as Canada, America, South Africa, Finland and Mexico. The world is waking up fast to the arrival of Helmut Lotti and he sells several hundred thousands CD's in America alone. He confidently sings in eight languages (Hebrew, Russian, Italian, Latin, French, English, German and Spanish) as well as his mother-tongue of course which is Flemish (Dutch).
His private life has been a rollercoaster too. On 19 June 1990, he married Kimberly Grosman and the following year in October they had a baby daughter, Messalina. Some years later he writes a song for her 'My Love will Never Die". Sadly, Kimberly and Helmut decide to separate at the beginning of 1998 and they get divorced in 1999. On 16 February 2001, he marries Carol Jane Poe and they built themselves a house in Merelbeke, near Ghent.
Helmut Lotti has received 52 golden records and 72 platinum records.
