Leonard Clemence “Leo” Tindemans, born in Zwijndrecht on 16 April 1922, was prime minister (CVP) of two Belgian governments, from 25 April 1974 to 20 October 1978.
He was highly popular during his term in office. In 1979 he received 983,000 votes in the European parliamentary election, which is still a record for any election in Belgium.
